Black-headed Gull
Black-headed Gull

Back at Birnie Loch, the hard winter continued and most of the surface was frozen.  The birds were keeping a few holes open, and I spotted this Black-headed Gull drinking at one of them.

You might ask where it’s black head has gone? I think this is an immature gull because of the mottled head, and in winter the black (chocolate really) of the mature gulls is mostly replaced with white, leaving a comma behind the eye.
