Barbed Wire and Grass (02 Dec 2014)

Santa came early in 2014, as I treated myself to a new long zoom lens.  I took some test shots in the village with it and the older long zoom lens and was delighted with the image quality it produced.  I also rather liked some of the shots I took.  One of the barbed wire shots has a tiny spider next to one of the barbs.

Schloss Schwetzingen (28 Feb 2014)

I spent a few days with a friend who lives near Darmstadt, and we visited Schloss Schwetzingen which is a wonderful building dating to approximately 1700-1750.  It has extensive, beautiful gardens and is roughly equidistant from Manheim and Heidelberg, the other seats of the  Electors of Palatine.  A remarkable feature seen on Google Earth is what used to be a straight avenue lined with mulberry trees going to Heidelberg.

Potato Fields (24 May 2013)

Potatoes are planted in big ridges, and in the right light they make stunning semi-abstract images.  This field is visible from the A91 between Strathmiglo and Gateside. These are the some of the first images I took when I changed to a Pentax K5 II. Someone said they reminded them of some of Bridget Riley’s work and I can see where they were coming from.

Barbed Wire (26th Dec 2010)

Things were no long quite as cold and in a few places there was lots of hoar frost.  I found this example on barbed wire – the bit dangling seemed to have formed on a bit of sheep wool.

The next day the thaw started, and although it was still freezing at night it was warm enough during the day for the hoar frost to go.

Teasels in the snow (28th Nov 2011)

Teasels
Teasels

Towards the end of November it started to snow – and snow, and snow, and snow. I had left the heads on the self-sown teasels and they made a great B&W subject with some snow.

This was taken the day my 55-300mm lens arrived – I got the DA version with metal mount and a lens hood.
