My father’s parents came to the UK as Jewish refugees just before World War 1, and I found visiting this memorial very moving. I thought about what had happened to my (and maybe their) many relatives who were not able to escape.
I also wondered what the couple in my picture were thinking, and what their family history was. Did it have the same resonances for them as it did for me?
