I had booked a visit to the Cairngorm Reindeer Herd, and we left home very early to avoid traffic problems around Perth and on the A9. The journey went swimmingly, and we arrived at their base with lots of time to spare.
After a cuppa I drove up to the car park, and looked for a space in the shade. Eventually everyone going gathered, and the herders took to where the reindeer were. As we arrived we saw the newest member, a tiny calf born in the past few hours!
Most of them were growing their new set of antlers, and a lot of them were looking a bit tatty as they were moulting out their winter coats. Some of the males had already grown a spectacular set. The herders knew them all by name!
Hand feeding them was wonderful, and as the photos show we were fantastically luck with the weather. I made use of the Destiny Bridge to go round the east of Perth on the way home, thus avoiding the queues that were probably at the Inveralmond and Broxden roundabouts.
