Following returning to the high hills in May, I went to Glenshee. The Munros there are a soft touch as they are not especially high, and the road climbs to 2,200′! It also has massive car parks, a good café and 24-hour toilets.
The initial walk is somewhat marred by the lifts and scars of the roads and ski runs, but I was thrilled to be out on the tops again.
I had no idea there was a loch up there, and was also surprised given the dry spell to find a soggy bit! I also saw some ptarmigan, but my phone couldn’t take a half-decent photo of them.
There was a small amount of snow on the hills, but very little for midsummer. The visibility was excellent – from The Cairnwell I could pick out the Fife hills of East & West Lomond, and The Bishop.
