January Moon (05 Jan 2026)

We had some proper cold weather and snow up in the Highlands at the start of 2026. Full moon was on the 3rd, and these photos were taken a couple of days later.

I walked up West Lomond in the morning with the proper camera to take some better photos of the hills in the distance than the phone will manage.

It was stunningly clear! The first photo in the gallery has Schiehallion on the right (68km away), the second has Ben More on the right (78km!) and the last is far more modest – they are the bills around Ben Cleuch which is a mere 30km distant. It would have been a fabulous day in the high hills but I don’t have winter boots or the fitness for a day of winter hillwalking.
