Kirkcaldy Town House was the administrative centre of Kirkcaldy District Council, which was subsumed into Fife Council when unitary authorities came along in 1996. The District Council itself was the result of merging a number of smaller councils. The lanterns in one of the photos are the Provost’s lamps from the former Royal Burghs (Kirkcaldy, Kinghorn, Burntisland, Leven, Buckhaven and Methil) within Kirkcaldy district and were moved to their current location in 1975 when the Royal Burghs were abolished.
The building has a lot of beautiful architectural details both inside and out, though like all such buildings the more work-aday areas don’t share that interest and beauty!
There were short tours as part of the Doors Open Days initiative.
