THE David. The statue by Michelangelo, in the Accademia in Florence. it’s wonderful, as are his others in the gallery, and floats above the crowds on a tall plinth.
This is the second time I’ve visited Florence, and the first time we didn’t have to get tickets and the Accademia was almost empty. How different it is now.
As well as the many world-wide replicas, there is one in Palazzo Vecchio in the Piazza della Signoria which is where it originally stood, and another larger bronze cast with a commanding view of the city in the Piazzale Michelangelo.
