I had wanted to walk up to this viewpoint for sometime, but the damage wreaked by gales in early 2022 precluded it for a while. The walk up was easier than I expected, and the view (despite the A9) is magnificent. I plan visiting again very early one morning when there is almost no traffic (and hence almost no traffic noise), and more interesting light. The name comes from the shelter at the viewpoint which is built like a pine cone.
