This was our last day on Orkney. We went for a walk from Stromness along the footpath on the north short of the Sound of Hoy where we was a variety of birds, porpoises and a very serious photographer, visited the Pier Arts Centre and the Museum, and finally took the ferry back to Scrabster.

The ferry route gives fabulous views of the cliffs on Hoy, and of the Old Man of Hoy. We were accompanied in both directions by Fulmars, floating in rafts and flying alongside the ferry which sails at about 20 knots – 23mph, 37kph. And that was without flapping, just skimming along.
