This was becoming a very busy day! The Brough of Birsay can only be access at low (or low-ish) tide, and the warden at the Broch of Gurness confirmed tides were suitable that afternoon, so off we trotted. This is an even later site, being settled by the Picts, and the Norse came along about 200 years later.
Once more, as well as the archaeology, this is another place of both birds, and the noise of pounding surf and my photos reflect that. In particular, Oyster Catchers like to nest within the Historic Scotland enclosure!
