Coming home, I had to change trains at Doncaster. It was bitterly cold and I had settled in the waiting room as the least cold place when the announcer said that we shouldn’t board the next train arriving on platform 4, where I was. I looked up to see a single maroon coach showing in the window. I shot out onto the platform and there was a gorgeous green locomotive, ‘Bahamas’ 45596, a Jubilee class locomotive. It had been doing Santa work at the Nene Valley Railway and was on it’s way home.
There were suddenly a lot of staff on the platform, clustering round it. Not only is it a magnificent locomotive, it was producing plenty of heat! There were also a number of train spotters there taking videos and photos.
