I really wanted to visit the Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt as it’s where Joseph Haydn spent much of his immensely productive working life. We went by train & coach, and simply booked the tickets at a station. I was interested to see that part of our journey there was on a coach!
The old centre of the town was beautiful, so of course was the Palace. But what really stunned me was what is now called the Haydnsaal, where much of Haydn’s music would have first been heard. It seemed fairly small though had seats for at least , and seemed not only be beautiful but to have wonderful acoustics. Not to dry, and not too reverberant. We also benefited from being the only people on the English language tour that day!
